In 2005, Memphis Heart Clinic founded a specialized heart failure clinic, designed to manage the care of heart failure patients on an outpatient basis. Realizing the need for these patients to evaluate their status daily in order to avoid hospitalization, the staff, including Stephanie Tyler, R.N, PHD, DNSc Director of Cardiovascular Services, designs individualized plans to monitor each patient's chronic symptoms, such as weight gain or shortness of breath.
The Heart Failure Clinic, based in our main office within the Baptist Memorial Complex, engages patients in their own ongoing care. Patients are educated to recognize and manage symptoms, which if ignored, would ultimately lead to hospitalization. Recommendations and treatments resulting from the clinic might include diuretic therapies or beta blockers.
Recognizing that nearly 20 percent of Memphis Heart Clinic patients suffer from heart failure and heart failure is the leading cause for hospital admission, our cardiologists and their teams are working diligently to reach this population and intervene earlier.
Patients can be enrolled in the program prior to their release from the hospital.
