Memphis Heart Clinic’s Nuclear Lab Receives National Accreditation for Outstanding Quality

Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL) Recognizes Memphis Heart Clinic’s Nuclear Cardiology Lab as One of US Best

MEMPHIS, TN – September 4, 2008 Memphis Heart Clinic announced today that its nuclear laboratory was recently granted ICANL accreditation. The laboratory is one of the first nuclear cardiology laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be so recognized for its dedication to high quality patient care and its provision of high quality diagnostic testing. “It is our top priority to make sure our patients receive the highest quality care and services available. Memphis Heart Clinic’s ICANL accreditation reflects its commitment to meeting the highest standards of excellence in nuclear imaging,” according to Bashar Shala, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FASE, Director of Nuclear Cardiology.

The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL) developed an accreditation program evaluating the quality of myocardial perfusion imaging (nuclear cardiology testing) and other critical elements of a nuclear cardiology laboratory. Myocardial perfusion imaging is a type of diagnostic test used to evaluate the condition of the heart under stress and at rest. This complex imaging technique relies on the training and expertise of both the physician and the technologist performing the test. Their interpretive and technical abilities determine the diagnostic accuracy of the examination.

As a Mid-South leader in cardiovascular care, Memphis Heart Clinic physicians have also been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Physician Recognition Program for Heart/Stroke Care, a 3-year recognition awarded for excellence in cardiac care
