Memphis Cardiologist Performs Highly Specialized Procedure for Atrial Fibrillation
(David Lan, MD, Memphis Heart Clinic, introduces cardiac ablation procedure to Memphis area)
David Lan, MD, electrophysiologist with the Memphis Heart Clinic, recently introduced
a new procedure for the treatment of atrial fibrillation into the Memphis medical community. The procedure, know as an atrial fibrillation ablation, is used to correct atrial fibrillation, the most common form of irregular heart beat occurring in approximately 2% of Americans. This highly specialized procedure was introduced into the US in 1998, and in 2006 received approval to be used as an alternative option to correct atrial fibrillation in patients where previous treatments failed.
Dr. Lan received extensive training to perform atrial fibrillation ablation procedures during his Electrophysiology Fellowship training at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama, rated one of the top heart programs in the country.
