Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Shala joined Memphis Heart Clinic in 2000, bringing with him a distinguished reputation as a physician and researcher which he earned in just more than a decade.

He received his Internal Medicine Residency training at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where he was Chief Medical Resident. From there, he went on to practice in Internal and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Shala then returned to the University of Tennessee for additional training and a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine where he also served as Chief Cardiology Fellow. This was followed by another Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, after which he became board certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, internal medicine, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular computed tomography.

Dr. Shala has published and presented widely.  He has received numerous awards and honors, including multiple Physician Recognition awards from the American Medical Association and the James Givens’ Award for Excellence from the University of Tennessee.  Outside of Memphis Heart Clinic, his contributions are numerous and including participation in multiple professional organizations including  fellowships the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the American Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE), and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (FASNC).  He is also a member of the American and the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

Dr. Shala’s personal interests in practice are interventional therapy for Coronary Artery Disease and Peripheral Vascular Disease.  Additional interests include nuclear non-invasive evaluation of Coronary Disease, CT angiography and Transesophageal Echocardiography and clinical research.

Memphis Heart Clinic is proud of Dr. Shala who was recognized in 2007 by the National Committee for Quality Assurance for his excellence in cardiac care.

Outside of work, Dr. Shala has an intense interest in promoting philanthropy and interfaith relations; he speaks regularly to faith-based organizations around the Memphis area.
